Therapeutic Effect of an Implantable Peroneal Nerve Stimulator in Subjects With Chronic Stroke and Footdrop: A Randomized Controlled Trial (Journal abstract)

This RCT compared the implantable drop foot stimulator (STIMuSTEP) to normal walking device (AFO, walking aid etc) in CVA patients.  The outcomes included root mean square of tibialis anterior and peronei muscles as well as walking speed.  There was no improvement in walking speed seen, however there was an improvement seen at a muscular level, indicating improved plasticity.
