The effects of common peroneal stimulation on the effort and speed of walking.
This article summarises the original RCT for the ODFS and is titled "The effects of common peroneal stimulation on the effort and speed of walking. A randomised controlled trial with chronic hemiplegic patients."
This study was the first RCT of any FES device and showed significant improvements in walking speed and reduction in PCI (effort) when the ODFS was used. This paper with other evidence was used by the Development and Evaluation Committee to justify the use of the ODFS in the NHS.
